Engaging Aging
We all are engaging with aging. From birth through retirement we have developmental milestones to guide our progress. Then we retire and life’s journey is open ended. There is no guidance, no expectations of how to proceed. For thirty years we have to weave our way through uncertainty until we die. Perhaps engaging aging can be a bit less overwhelming as we define the future more pragmatically.

Engaging With Aging Volume One and Two
Doris Carnevali started her Engaging with Aging blog at age 95 and continued until 102. https://engagingwithagingblog.wordpress.com. It was so engaging that working with Doris, by adapting her blogs to spiral bound books, Volume One and Two were created.
Her writings are based on her experiences living at home independently (quasi) and needing to adjust her life to age related changes. She is not proscriptive but only relates her own experiences including creating mantras for life. It is a delightful, informative read.
Her challenge to me was to fill in the gaps between retirement and becoming 95. Gradually, working with others in early retirement, we are still developing pragmatic tools to help prepare us for anticipating and accepting future challenges. The challenge is to try to anticipate and confront our greatest fears and then seek solutions. We call this the Engaging Aging Assessment Tool.
The intent of the tool is to help guide our thinking of our retirement years. As time goes by the answers will change and so will the need. This may provide guidance as we explore the developmental tasks and responsibilities of engaging aging.
